Dry eye syndrome can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms. Your eyes may feel itchy, irritated, or inflamed. It might also feel like something’s stuck in them. You can also experience sensitivity to light, which can affect your quality of life.

If you’re dealing with this issue, there are ways to manage your symptoms and relieve discomfort. As dry eye care specialists, we’re sharing some tips to help you deal with this condition and see more comfortably again.

1. Use eye drops

If you’re dealing with dry eye, using lubricating eye drops can help provide relief. There are plenty of over-the-counter options to choose from, and you can use them multiple times throughout the day. It’s important to choose preservative-free drops, especially if you’re using them frequently. If over-the-counter drops aren’t cutting it, your eye doctor can prescribe stronger drops for more effective relief.

2. Blink often

Did you know that we blink less frequently when looking at screens? This can lead to dry eyes as well as irritation and sensitivity. To avoid this, remember to blink frequently, especially when you’re using digital devices or reading. It’s also helpful to take regular breaks from screens. We suggest following the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus on something 20 feet away. This trick helps prevent eye strain and fatigue.

3. Wear sunglasses

If you have sensitive eyes, you know how annoying bright light can be. Sunglasses are a great solution that can help you see clearly and comfortably in bright environments. Polarized lenses can also be helpful as they significantly reduce glare from reflected light.

4. Consider your environment

When the air is dry, it can make your dry eyes worse. Make sure to use a humidifier in dry environments to add moisture to the air. Also, fans, heaters, and air conditioners can dry out your eyes, so never have them pointing directly at your face.

5. See an eye doctor
